Eat Your Heart Out For Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation (Review)

The fourth annual Eat Your Heart Out charity event kicked off on Monday March 2, with a ‘Taste the Tri-Cities by Trolley’ tour throughout Port Moody.

The event began with a mixer at the Port Moody City Hall, where guests who purchased at $75 ticket could mingle, drink wine by donation, and purchase raffle tickets. There was also a photo booth set up where attendees could take photos holding a giant spoon and fork.

Attendees mingled and wet their whistles for just over an hour. Next, Executive Director Charlene Giovannetti-King gave a brief speech, and heartwarming personal stories were shared by a local patient and doctor, illustrating the importance of the staff and medical facilities working in our local community.

After speeches the trolleys were lined up outside the library, prepared to take guests on one of two loops to sample the menus of the participating restaurants in the Eat Your Heart Out campaign.

The six local restaurants -listed below- will be offering $35 three-course dinners for the next two weeks (not unlike the style of Dine Out Vancouver), and will be donating $10 of each of these dinner purchases to the ERHF (http://erhf.ca/).

Raffle prizes included and “Eat You Heart Out Prize Pack” which featured $100 gift cards to all six of the participating restaurants (winner: Pouria Ghahari), four tickets to the upcoming Canucks v. LA Kings hockey game (winner: Ray Tefler), and an amazing overnight stay at Harrison Hot Springs, with dinner and breakfast included (winner: Vangie McCarthy).

All proceeds from the event went to the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation, to help fund medical equipment, programs, and facilities for the local hospital. The EYHO event is a wonderful local event that allows members of the community to taste delicious dishes and give back to a charitable cause.

The participating restaurants are Mr.Mikes, Browns Socialhouse, The Boathouse, Onyx, Saint St. Grill and St. James’ Well, and each establishment came up with unique dishes for EYHO. We were lucky enough at the 604Now to attend this neat event and taste menus of three of the restaurants. Here’s what we got to taste:

Saint St. Grill
Wild salmon carpaccio, with julienne of diakon and carrot marinated in avocado oil and white balsamic vinegar , pink peppercorn aioli topped with tobiko roe. Slow braised B.C.raised ostrich red wine demi caramelized onion. Chocolate biscotti cup filled with white chocolate mousse painted with bitter-sweet dark chocolate.

SAINT-GRILL

Browns Socialhouse Newport Village
Slow braised pork ribs with smoky bbq sauce. Served with a side of crisp coleslaw.  Other option was a pan-seared, potato crusted halibut, topped with a cajun tartar sauce and served with crisp coleslaw.

Mr. Mike’s Steakhouse Casual
A steak covered in creamy peppercorn  Sauce with garlic mash potato and Cascadia Salad.
