Abbotsford Prison: Across Canada Drone Smuggling

Smoking was banned in all Canadian prisons back in 2008, and the number of smuggling attempts is on the rise. As a matter of fact, drone smuggling is experiencing a global insurgence in prisons.

“In Quebec the number of drone sightings has risen by more than 15 per cent in the last year. According to the correctional officers union 90 drones were spotted flying near a jail in Quebec in 2016 compared to only 15 in 2015,” reports CTV News.

Correctional Service of Canada is investigating ways to block drones from flying near prisons; however; officials are asking the public to call 9-1-1 if anyone spots a drone flying close to an institution.
