I’m sure many of us have done it, tried to look for parking across the street from the PNE due to the $20 price to park your car, and sometimes limited spaces at the PNE parking lot. The City of Vancouver is now threatening once again to punish residents around the PNE area for offering their driveways as pay parking for PNE fair goers.
According to the City of Vancouver, residents holding their parking signs get in the way of traffic, and pedestrians and form a major threat. Under city bylaws, residents are only allowed to charge for one vehicle on their lot, anymore than that, and they could get fined up to $2,000.
It also makes you wonder, doesn’t the city have anything better to worry about? There’s not much harm in people parking in nearby resident driveways, and to date, hasn’t caused any major safety issues. If parking at the PNE was only $10 or $15 dollars, perhaps people wouldn’t bother parking across the street, but the fact is people don’t want to pay that $20 price tag to park in the PNE’s parking lot. As well, the lot can get very limited in space, which leaves fair goers with no other option than to park across the street in resident driveways!
Regardless, it’s inevitable that people will park across the street in resident driveways with or without someone standing outside with a dollar sign. Since it’s bound to happen, residents may as well try and profit from this inevitable fact.
What do you think of the City of Vancouver cracking down on resident parking, a good idea, or a waste of time?
