Tis’ the season to live in Vancouver. While we all know we live in one of those most beautiful places in the world—there’s something even more magical about the city during the Christmas season.

Canada was recently named one of the most Christmas-y countries in the world. But Vancouver itself, has a lot to offer during the chillier months.

Why Christmas Is Best In Vancouver

Photo Opportunities Galore

Vancouver always has lots of beauty to offer, making it an easy spot to get some awesome photos—but during the holidays this is only amplified. Whether it’s unique photo-opp displays just for the season, or the multiple Christmas light tunnels at various events—there’s something for everyone.

Meet Real Reindeer

You can meet real reindeer at Grouse Mountain’s Peak of Christmas event. It’s like the mountain transformed into the North Pole, and of course that includes Santa’s reindeer.

The Weather Is Mild

While it does get cold here, it wouldn’t be Christmas without the chill in the air. But Vancouver’s weather is a lot more mild compared to our neighbours. We usually see a bit of snow, but definitely not close to what Alberta and other provinces get. Meaning, we get the Christmas feel but can still go out and do fun activities.

All The Winter Sports

Vancouver has it all—you can go snowboarding, tubing, skiing or snowshoeing at one of the city’s many mountains. The best part is we have a few located close enough to the city so it’s not a whole day venture just to get up there. Less time commuting, more time dashing through the snow.

Endless Events

From the German-themed Vancouver Christmas Market and Canyon Lights to the twinkling Festival of Lights and Grouse Mountain’s ‘North Pole‘—the city has an endless array of festive events to help celebrate the holidays.

Trees & Decorations

The city really gets into the spirit of the season, with multiple large Christmas trees to marvel at sprawled throughout the city and lots of decorations all over the place.

Outdoor Ice Skating Rink

The opening of the Robson Square Ice Rink is a big deal for Vancouverites. The beloved tradition of skating outside with friends or a loved one can’t be beat. One of the city’s biggest Christmas trees is also located in the area to add to the festivities. In addition, we also have a mountain top skating rink to look forward to.

The ‘Winter Wonderland’ Patio

Vancouver is also home to one of the country’s only Winter patios. Check out the Rosewood Hotel Georgia’s Reflections restaurant, which has a magical pop-up patio just in time for Christmas. With holiday-inspired cocktails and appies to help keep you warm–it’s a must every year.

Festive Treats

Another good thing about the holidays in Vancouver, is all the special treats that pop up around the city. Mulled wine, chocolate candy cane buns, spiked eggnog and hot chocolate cupcakes are just a few of the treats you can indulge in.

Cozy Getaways

You can find a number of cozy cottages and unique accommodations in Metro Vancouver, or just a short road trip away. It’s the perfect excuse to go for a little Winter getaway and reconnect with nature.
