It may be toasty in Vancouver right now as a result of the province-wide heat wave; however, one Car2go commuter had his ride go up in flames mere minutes after he parked it.
Dainan Fraser picked up the vehicle on the morning of Wednesday, June 20th, and parked the car-share outside of his work.
Afterwards, the man was shocked to see smoke billowing out of the backseat window.
“I heard a loud bang, a loud explosion, and I looked out of my window and I just saw black billowing smoke,” he told News 1130.
“I was like, ‘Oh, I should probably get out of the building,’ not knowing it was going to be my car and then I head out the front door of the office and the Car2Go was in complete flames.”
While the car didn’t take long to become completely engulfed in flames, his entire commute was less than 5 minutes. After parking at West Cordova and Cambie, he was inside his work building went he heard the bang. In fact, he thought the bang came from inside the building.

While firefighters were quick to the scene, they couldn’t do much to salvage the vehicle. Now, only a blackened skeleton of the ride-share remains.
In addition, VPD are investigating as to whether there was arson involved in the case.
