canada soccer / facebook

It is heartbreak once again for Canada’s Women Soccer Team.

The ladies in red fell 2-0 to powerhouse Germany who they had beaten in the preliminary round, Canada’s first win against Germany in history.

Melanie Behringer and Sara Dabritz scored for Germany who will now play Sweden on Friday at 4:30 p.m. ET in the gold medal game.

Overall, Germany now holds a 13-1 all-time record against Canada, outscoring them 41-15.

Clearly the underdog heading into Tuesday’s match up, the ladies put forth a strong effort but ultimately fell short of moving on to the gold medal game.

Canada’s best scoring chance came in the 77th minute when midfielder Diana Matheson, from in close, drilled a shot off the right arm of German goalkeeper Almuth Schult keeping the ball out of the net.

All game long the Canadian’s seemed to lack discipline and patience on defense, while the German’s looked cool, calm, and collected.

Canada will now be playing for bronze on Friday afternoon as they will take on the host country Brazil.
