With two days left until Christmas you can expect that people are rushing to get home for the holidays. Both BC Ferries and YVR are warning travellers to be prepared well in advance.

Those who are looking to head to Vancouver Island should be prepared for interruptions. BC Ferries report that reservations at the major terminals are pretty much sold out. At the Tsawwassen ferry terminal sailings were all booked up in advance by travellers eager to get home.

People can also look to get on as a foot passenger but are advised to arrive early to ensure they can board on time.

“Tickets stop being sold for foot passengers at the major terminals 10 minutes in advance of the scheduled sailing, but I would advise anybody traveling as a foot passenger to arrive earlier than that over the holidays because we do expect extra volume,” says Deb Marshall with BC Ferries.

BC Ferries also expects high traffic from 26th to the 28th as people begin to make plans for New Year’s Eve.

If you plan to head to the airport, there are a few things you should keep in mind before you leave the house.

Passengers are advised to check-in online before arriving the airport.

“Lots of passengers enjoy taking the Canada Line and probably over 20 percent of our passengers are taking transit to the airport, which is terrific. But certainly, there is lots of great parking options as well” said Reg Krake with YVR.

With the recent snow that metro Vancouver has received, passengers are also encouraged to keep a close eye on the weather to see if their travel plans may be affected in any way.
