During the 2011 throne speech, Christy Clark’s government confirmed its plans to introduce a statutory holiday in February, but said the first one wouldn’t come until 2013.

Family Day is set to take effect in B.C. on February 19, 2013, about two months before the next provincial election.
B.C. will join three other provinces–Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario–that celebrate Family Day on the third Monday of February.
“Given our economic circumstances, B.C. employers will need time to adjust to this new statutory holiday,” said the speech. “Therefore, the first B.C. Family Day will fall on Feb. 18, 2013.”
Here is a list of the first five Family Days in B.C.:
February 18, 2013
February 17, 2014
February 16, 2015
February 15, 2016
February 20, 2017
The addition of Family Day gives B.C. a public holiday between New Year’s Day and Good Friday.
Here is a list of other B.C. statutory holidays, according to the BC Ministry of Labour:
New Year’s Day – January 1
