B.C. Bans Teens From Tanning Beds

B.C. is the latest province to ban children and teens under 18 from using tanning beds due to the high demand thanks to Jersey Shore, just joking!

According to Health Minister Mike de Jong, some children and teens are oblivious to the harsh effects tanning beds can have on our bodies, including increased risk of cancer. Jong believes that these restrictions may appear harsh, but are necessary, and that parental approval for those under 18 is too lenient of an approach to the problem.

Come fall, the government will pass this regulation, and only in specific cases where prescriptions to treat certain kinds of medical issues will this regulation be lifted.

B.C. follows in the footsteps of other areas promoting a similar ban, such as Nova Scotia, where you need to be over 19 in order to use the tanning beds, and the city of Victoria who has enforced its own ban last year.

What do you think of the tanning ban?
