Apple Will Repair Your iPhone 5 Sleep/Wake Button For Free

Apple iPhone users who have been affected by a broken sleep/wake button will be happy to learn Apple has launched a replacement program.

Apple iPhone 5 users who have been affected by a broken sleep/wake button will be happy to learn Apple has launched a replacement program.

A good percentage of the mobile phones manufactured after March 2013 have faulty mechanisms that can lead to problems with the top button, this prevents the handset from being turned on and off or locked. Those who previously encountered this problem had to spend over $200 to get the problem fixed unless your iPhone 5 was under warranty.

“Apple has determined that the sleep/wake button mechanism on a small percentage of iPhone 5 models may stop working or work intermittently. iPhone 5 models manufactured through March 2013 may be affected by this issue. Apple will replace the sleep/wake button mechanism, free of charge, on iPhone 5 models that exhibit this issue and have a qualifying serial number.”

Now here’s the thing, not ALL iPhone 5’s qualify for the replacement program. To find out if yours does, quickly head over to the replacement program page on Apple’s website and enter your mobile’s serial number. Apple will then automatically let you know if qualify.

If you do qualify, you can send your iPhone for inspection through the mail, or call in at an Apple store or authorized service provider. If you take your mobile into the store, you can get a 16GB loaner iPhone 5 while yours is being repaired (can take up to 6 business days)

If you already paid to have your iPhone 5 sleep button replaced, you can contact Apple to request a refund.
