Toronto was the only Canadian city to make the final cut for Amazon’s second headquarters; however, the company is opening a second corporate office in Vancouver.
While a second headquarters would have granted the local economy as many as 50,000 new jobs, the corporate office secures a great deal of growth; as many as 1,000 new jobs will come directly as a result from it.
What’s more, Justin Trudeau made an announcement today, April 30th, that the new corporate office will be located in the old Canada Post building at 349 West Georgia Street.
The office is slated to open in 2022.

As a result, the move will bring as many as 3,000 total new jobs in related tech fields to the region.
Currently, Amazon currently employs more 1,000 researchers and engineers in the city. They operate out of the TELUS garden building and other locations throughout the Lower Mainland.
In addition, an Amazon Go in Seattle launched the first ever cashier-free grocery store in the entire world, and it was a huge success. Only a 2 hour drive from Vancouver, the revolutionary new store set a precedent for retail.
Now, a flight service directly between Seattle and Vancouver’s downtown core operates on weekdays. As such, the flights are a boon for efficient business between the two technology hubs. Otherwise, travellers face long waits at the border or checking into the main airports with all the other traffic.
