Abbotsford Police Officer Loses Life After Engaging In Shootout With Suspect

Abbotsford Police / Surrey Man

Late Monday afternoon, Abbotsford Police Department Chief Bob Rich confirmed that one officer died following a shootout with a suspect. He has been identified as Const. John Davidson, an officer for 24 years.

Another officer was also injured in the incident. The suspect, a 60-year-old man from Alberta, is now in custody.

Police officers arrived in the area of Mt. Lehman Road and Fraser Highway at about noon, at a strip mall north of Highstreet Shopping Centre.

The suspect attempted to drive off in a stolen car before police arrived, but the individual who made the original 911 call blocked him in with his car.

Unfortunately, the suspect emerged from the car with a shotgun and began shooting at numerous individuals.

Langley resident Marci Dauncey witnessed the police response, stating that police officers converged on the suspect and began shooting.

She added people got out their cars with their phones before police told them to get back inside their vehicles.
