Surrey Vaisakhi Parade 2012 Attracts 200,000 People

This past Saturday, the 2012 Vaisakhi parade took place throughout the streets of Surrey with an impressive show of 200,000 people! The purpose of the Vaisakhi parade is to celebrate the harvest and the New Year, as well as the anniversary of the birth of the Khalsa in 1699, one of the most religious days in the Sikh faith.

This family-oriented event that has been occurring in Surrey for the past 12 years is one of the largest Vaisakhi parades outside of India. The event features free food, floats and entertainment and is welcome to and enjoyed by various people of various cultures.

The event is organized by the Gurdwara Sahib Dasmesh Darbar Temple, in Surrey, and spokesperson Moninder Bual, is proud of their hard work and the successful outcome of this year’s parade.
