10 Things You Should Know Before Moving In With Your Partner

10 Things You Should Know Before Moving In With Your Partner

There really should be a test called, “Are you capable of living together?” before couples actually move out with each other. Because really, once you’ve handed in your first month’s rent plus security deposit, you’re way past the committed stage. And at this point, it’s too late to avoid the ambush of future quirks you will come to despise of your new roommate. The worst part? Your roommate also shares a bed with you – unless you’re on the couch, which happens more than you want to admit.

So, we felt it was very necessary to warn all of the lovebirds out there to do their research before cutting keys together.

Don’t immediately buy a pet

Want to learn real quick who the lazy one is in the relationship? Buy a dog! Learning to live together is tough as is. Add a pooping puppy to the mix and things get messy.

Designate an actual laundry day

Don’t become the couple that somehow wears the same shirt for a week to dodge laundry duty. And men, don’t ever say, “It’s a woman’s job”. That’s a one-way ticket to the big comfy couch.

And even when the laundry gets done, comfy clothes prevail!

Videogames may destroy you…literally

The PlayStation 4 is constantly running in the background. Even when you quickly get up to check on dinner, he hits the video source button and checks his Madden stats. Long story short; don’t move out with an extreme gamer unless you’re okay with being his personal cheerleader.

Watch where you leave your Tupperware

He didn’t actually take your leftovers to work. The text he sent you about last night’s “delicious” lasagna was complete BS. You know this because the Tupperware is still in the fridge.

Loading the dishwasher is a talent

Knives and spoons should never face downwards before putting a load to wash. It’s common sense that they won’t ever be fully cleansed. If you’re the culprit, change your ways to avoid another World War II. (image via CC BY-SA)

Grocery shopping is a game of chess

You’ll soon discover the tactics of grocery shopping, such as disappearing from the check-out till moments before the bill is produced. Or claiming you forgot your wallet just as you park the car. One person always becomes the cheapo. (image via qmnonic)

Scaring each other becomes your four-play

Every corner and nook of the house is a potential threat, which slowly turns into a game of who can scare the other more. It’s all in good fun until the one who dresses up in a clown mask gets punched in the face.

Sex is a myth

The days of intimacy will leave the moment you share a key. “I’m too tired,” is your house motto. Between work, cooking, and walking the dog, you’re both too spent to even hold hands.

Farewell, date night

“Every night is a date night now that we live together!” Watching Modern Family every night does not count as a date.

Moving out with your sweetheart sounds like a great idea. You split the cost of living in half while getting to curl up next to the one you love each night – what could possibly go wrong? Well, everything you could imagine can go wrong, but if you make it past the first few weeks without throwing dishes at each other, you’re basically in the clear.

Needless to say, you have been warned.
