It took a little longer than expected, but commuters will be officially prohibited from smoking on the outdoor decks of BC Ferries’ vessels or at any of their terminals.
The new ban will come into effect on January 22, 2018.
According to President Mark Collins, the new policy supports the health and wellness of customers and employees by reducing exposure to second-hand smoke.
“The policy aligns with other transportation services and ensures everyone using our services can breathe smoke-free air.”
The new smoke-free policy applies to tobacco and any other substance including e-cigarettes, and is expected to reduce the number of complaints BC Ferries receives from customers related to second-hand smoke.
