Did we scare you? Okay, that wasn’t one of our best tricks, but we’ve got some definite treats for you this October.
Aside from hitting up every grocery store possible for the perfect deals on boxes of Halloween candy (which you totally should do), metro Vancouver is thriving with things that go bump in the night this Halloween season.
To help you embrace all thinks spooky, slimy and gruesome – or family-friendly for your tiny monsters – we’ve put together a list of the best Halloween events happening this year in the 604, in no particular order.
Vancouver Halloween Parade & Expo | October 13th – 16th
Experience this family-friendly Halloween event that shies away from the typical ghosts and goblins associated with the spooky holiday. Instead, celebrate cosplay, anime and “less fearful” costumes! The parade is FREE! One day all access passes are $25; Super Passes for the entire festival are $40
The Zombie Syndrome: Dead in the Water | October 4th – 31st
Head down to Granville Island to take part in this immersive, theatrical adventure that requires you to solve mystery cases, all while outrunning the walking dead! It’ll feel like you’re living in a Zombie Apocalypse. Tickets start at $25.
Haunted Village | October 27th – 30th
Happening at the Burnaby Village Museum, the Haunted Village is an outdoor journey with all of your favourite Halloween characters. Witches, ghosts and more! Bring your little ones as this event is kid-friendly. Tickets are available upon arrival.
Stanley Park Ghost Train | October 8th – 31st
One of Vancouver’s most iconic holiday trains rolls into town, spookier than ever with a special opening night Day of the Dead celebration. Experience the 14-minute long train ride with epic sounds, sights and live performers around every bend. Tickets range in price ($7-11 depending on age).
Halloween Fireworks Festival | October 31st
Light up your night after trick-or-treating with the family and enjoy the Halloween Fireworks Festival happening at Minoru Park in Richmond. The festival will feature music, dancing, activities for the kids, clowns, a magic show and of course, a fabulous fireworks finale! Admission is free for all. 6:30-8:45pm.
Halloween Drive-In Theatre | October 21st, 22nd, 28th & 29th
Canada’s only Halloween-themed Drive-In Theatre takes over the River District Drive-In this holiday season. This year’s movies include Beetle Juice, Hotel Transylvania, Edward Scissorhands and Monsters, Inc.! Only $20 for however many little goblins you can fit in your car!
Halloweenie | October 30th
This free event takes place in the heart of Granville Island at the Kids Market. Take part in the Halloween balloon hunt, get creative by making some awesome crafts, play spooktacular games and even get a free hotdog and drink if you dress up in your costume. Perfect for your little monsters!
Various Haunted Houses | October – November
Who else loves wandering aimlessly through terrifying houses that you wish you never entered? Make this Halloween scarier than ever by visiting one, or all, of Vancouver’s best haunted houses, including Fearmongers, Potter’s House of Horrors, Gravecouver and more.
Fright Nights at Playland | October 7th – 31st
How could we not put this on the list? Fright Nights is a staple Halloween event to us Vancouverites – and this year, Playland will be home to 7 haunted houses. 15 rides are included with your ticket, as well as 2 thrilling live performances. Tickets vary in price, depending on the day you go.
The Lost Souls of Gastown | October 13th – November 1st
Forbidden Vancouver presents a special Halloween version of The Lost Souls of Gastown: a Gothic Adventure through Vancouver’s oldest street. Designed for mainly adults, you’ll enjoy a theatre show as well as a walking tour through old Granville Townsite. Relive John Bay’s mysterious death and revisit the Gastown’s eerie past. Tickets start at $22 for students.
Haunted Vancouver Trolley Tour | October 14th – 31st
Excluding Sundays and Mondays (except Oct. 30th + 31st), jump on the trolley that will take you to another realm filled with Vancouver ghost stories, a stop at the Police Museum and Mountain View Cemetery. This 2.5 hour tour features an array of hauntings from all around the city. Adults only – $40 per person.
Reapers Haunted Attraction | October 1st – 31st (excluding some days)
The scariest indoor theatrical horror experience in Western Canada – this attraction is filled with crazies. Literally. The insane asylum theme haunt showcases loony patients and crooked Doctors. Immerse yourself in the Maze of Terror – a corn maze with pretty much no light – that has a chainsaw freak roaming around looking for you. Eep. Combo prices are just $18.
Halloween Spooktacular! | October 30th
Hosted by the Coquitlam Farmers Market, the Halloween Spooktacular urges you to bring the kiddies decked in their best Halloween costumes for games, crafts and treats! There’s trick-or-treating for all the little ones and even a parade that you can join in on.
Grave Tales | October 14th – 30th
Fort Langley hosts this 18+ event that allows you an overnight stay in the creepy cemetery on site. Expert story-tellers will fill your head with tales of loves, mysterious burials and old-school amputations from Fort Langley’s past. Tickets range in price depending on age.
102.7 The Peak’s Halloween Party | October 31st
For your inner music freak, Vancouver’s Modern Rock radio station is hosting an epic Halloween party at Imperial wit special musical guests Bear Mountain and Little India. Support local bands as you jam out to Djs in your best costume – did we mention there will be prizes? Tickets are available here (must be 19+).
Dooms Night 2016 | October 29th
Ignite the raver in you! Dooms Night returns to Vancouver, inviting all-ages and VIP options available for 19+. This year’s artist lineup includes Alesso, Ephwurd, Headhunterz, Coone, Orjan Nilsen and Daijo. Happening at the Pacific Coliseum from 7pm-1am.
Brew Street’s AREA 51 Halloween Party | October 29th
If they Vancouver club-scene really isn’t your thing anymore stay local and hit up Port Moody’s Brew Street Craft and Kitchen for the cities hottest Halloween party in the Tricities. $1000 cash prize for the most creative costume, $500 for second place, and much more. Get your early bird tickets for just $15.
Science World Murder Mystery | October 28th
Okay, this technically isn’t an actually Halloween event, but it works perfectly with our theme. The latest after-hours event is sure to excite participants with a new night school nightmare murder mystery. Science World is a pretty darn creepy in the dark, so get your tickets for just $40 today and join in on the thrilling event.
Maan Farms Haunted Corn Maze | October 7th – 31st
The creepiest corn maze in town. This bad boy hosts chainsaw murderers and clown killers. Make your way through this maniacal maze; but be sure to bring a headlamp or you won’t be able to see where you’re going! Leatherface will be lurking in every dead end. Mwahaha. $23.79 per person.
Halloween Costume Ball | October 29th
Science World transforms in to a giant costume ball – and we’re not just talking about its shape. Spookify yourself in your best Halloween attire and join in on two rooms of music including EDM, Top 40s Mashups and Hip Hop. This 19+ event hosts 6 DJs to delight even the dullest of zombies. Tickets are $50.
Halloween Pub Crawl 2016 | October 28th – 29th
Why choose one location to get Halloween crazy at when you can hit up multiple pubs with your own personal transportation? Take a ride on a party bus for to 4 of the hottest clubs and parties. No lineups. Awesome DJs. Costume contests and tons more. Tickets start at just $25.
